A Prelude to Weight Loss

If ever America needed help with obesity, this is the time. Losing weight and keeping it off is no different than driving a car or baking a cake. You have to learn and understand what you are doing. Two thirds' of our population have proven they do not know what they are doing. Diets fail because people have not mentally prepared themselves for physical change (mind before body).


Before you are allowed to get behind the wheel of a car you must pass a written test. Before you graduate from high school or college you must pass several written tests. What if before you can start a diet you are required to pass a written test? What would be the questions?


Most diets call for less calories and more exercise, which will produce weight loss. In theory most diets work, however, in reality 90% of dieters fail. Why?


In the past decade I interviewed over one hundred successful dieters and found that they all went through a mental process before permanent weight loss. They questioned themselves. They studied their emotions, personal history, eating habits, childhood; they took notes and talked to people who lost weight. Most of them failed several diets before a healthy life style was developed. In other words they had to learn how to lose weight before they lost weight.


Giving someone a driver's license without a learners permit is the same as putting someone under a barbell or forcing them to change his/her eating habits without first learning the rules. They will crash!
